Tax Planning

Year-round analysis to identify tax issues, evaluate alternatives and plan before a filing deadline turns into a missed opportunity.

What problem brings someone here?

The call usually comes afterwards. The return is finished, the number is larger than expected, and the decisions that produced it were made eight months earlier. By then most of the options have closed.

Business owners feel this most sharply. An entity choice, an equipment purchase, a property sale or a distribution has already happened, and what could have been a planning conversation is now only a reporting conversation.

How can we help?

We look at the year while it is still running. That means reviewing the current position against the prior return, identifying the events likely to move the number, and setting out the alternatives while there is still time to act on them.

For business owners that often covers entity structure, the timing of income and expenses, owner compensation, asset purchases and the tax effect of a transaction under consideration. For individuals it is more often investment and property activity, retirement and distribution timing, multi-state issues and estimated payments.

What should you expect?

Planning work is a conversation rather than a document drop. We will ask what you expect for the rest of the year and what decisions you are weighing, then lay out the alternatives and what each is likely to mean for the return, including where a trade-off is not worth making.

You will get a clear summary of what was discussed and anything that needs to happen before year-end. We do not promise an outcome. We tell you what the options are and what each one involves.

How do I get started?

  1. Tell us what you need. Complete a short consultation request. Do not upload tax returns, Social Security numbers or other sensitive financial information through the website.
  2. We review the request. Our team reviews the general nature of the work and determines the appropriate person and next step.
  3. We talk. We will arrange a phone, video or office consultation when appropriate so we can better understand your situation.
  4. Securely provide information. If we move forward, we will provide instructions for securely sharing the documents and information needed for the engagement.
